Why Is Lack Of Energy One Of The Biggest Leadership Issues?
Let’s be honest. One of the biggest problems I see in leadership today isn’t whether you are great at strategy, brilliant at hiring good talent, or struggling to grow. The biggest issue is energy—or rather, the lack of it.
I work with HNW clients, and they can take the beautiful holidays, hire the amazing team, and go to the gym. Money can’t buy you energy. You can still wake up feeling like you’re dragging yourself through mud, and your life isn’t where you want it to be.
The reason is that exhaustion isn’t coming from the business. It’s coming from you. More specifically, from the emotional baggage and self-worth belief systems that were shaped by your experiences long before you can even remember. You’ve had them so long that you often say to yourself and others, “oh that’s just the way I am.” Rubbish. It’s not—and it doesn’t have to be.
I see it over and over again: business leaders who look unstoppable on the outside but are running on empty because deep down, they’re still trying to prove something. Maybe you were the high achiever in your family. Maybe you learned early on that love and approval were tied to performance. You can’t stop, because if you do then you’d have to hear your internal thoughts. I know what it’s like because I’ve been there—staying up late so I just fall asleep, and pushing to always be “on” so I didn’t have to stop and think.
Everything seems shiny and right on the outside, but underneath you still have that old belief: I am what I achieve, or I disappoint my parents, or I’ll never be successful (fill in the blanks!).
It’s draining. I successfully lost weight when I realised that I was eating sugary food not because I wanted it, but to give me extra energy. That was an epiphany.
Because no amount of success can fill the gap left by a lifetime of running from “not enough.” This is why so many high performers burn out quietly—not from the workload, not from lack of fitness or health, but because they are exhausted by their own constant performance of worthiness.
The truth is this: until you deal with the emotional weight you’re carrying—those old beliefs about safety, love, and success—you’ll keep leaking energy, no matter how smart or strategic you are. The moment we clear this for you, your success will escalate fast—if you want it to. You may choose to slow down, relax, and enjoy just where you are. Powerful leadership comes from powerful people. Be the leader everyone remembers for the right reasons.
