I was wrong.
And to be clear -I really didn’t want to do this. I was convinced it wasn’t for me.

 As someone who doesn’t enjoy admitting those three words, I’ll gladly say them now: I was wrong. I absolutely needed this, and it was exactly what I needed.

“While working as Food and Beverage Manager for an independent hotel group in Central London, I ran into difficulties working alongside the Executive Chef.

He had been introduced into the business after me and his responsibilities chipped into my original remit. To make things worse, we were both clearly pulling in different directions. Soon enough the lack of distinct leadership and miscommunications at every level of the organisation were grinding our daily work to a halt.

Mari Williams was brought in to mediate. Firstly we saw her separately and then together. Mari has a way of creating an atmosphere of trust and respect even amongst the fiercest rivals. We were both able to communicate our differences clearly, and even some more embarrassing deep rooted dislikes until eventually there was nothing left unsaid between the two of us.

We then put a work-frame in place to ensure mutual open communication continued beyond the mediation process and helped us find a way to leave the room ready to work together again.
